OSV Old Sturbridge Village,
Herb Garden,

The Herb Garden is a seasonal exhibit with more than 400 varieties of plants commonly cultivated in 19th-century New England household gardens or gathered from fields and woodlands. Herbs were used to flavor and preserve food, heal the sick, dye plants, and repel insects. In the Herb Garden, the herbs are displayed and grouped according to their traditional uses – culinary, medicinal, or household – and labeled with both their scientific and common names.

Brimfield

Our garden is a work in progress. Both Annette and Les have been gardening for a combination of 30 years.

Annette has a background in the arts and performance as well as organization leadership and is inspired by the public and country gardens of Europe and England. Les has a background in agriculture and engineering and is interested in the science behind gardening.

We grow a combination of vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers. We try and keep our garden as organic as possible and use some permaculture methods as well. We find joy, peace and solace in our garden and hope you will too!

The Petrie Family Farm

My husband Brian and I live in the center of our 4 acre homestead farm . Our property is made of ledge, steep in parts, and full of forest which produces a large amount of our compost.

Growing heirloom varieties allows us to grow seed crops to supply our microgreens operation and large enough crops to supply bulk items to restaurants, other farms & share purchasers. Knowing people get to eat the best tasting, all natural produce & edible flowers for their health is an awesome perk to our job!

Our farm provides microgreens, produce, eggs, flowers, plants & more! Kune Kune pigs, rabbits, chickens, quail, ducks & sheep.

Check out The Petrie Family Farm on Facebook.

Garden Mayhem on Paradise

For more than 25 years The Cappola’s have trialed hundreds of perennials throughout their property. The continually evolving landscape boasts colors, textures, and scents that discerning gardeners would probably consider “mayhem”. Nonetheless, Wendy is excited to share with new and experienced gardeners the species that have survived and thrived through the challenging Sturbridge seasons and occasional critter nibbling. She says, “plant a new perennial as an annual and when it comes back, nurture it within its own dedicated space, and enjoy!”

Plants to see include native mountain laurel, hosta, peony, rose campion, raised vegetable boxes, and various flourishing perennials across the 16 dedicated beds.

A mimosa guided tour with gardener Wendy starting on the hour 10am, 11am, noon, and 1pm.

A self-guided garden walk is welcome anytime 11am – 3pm.
